Overview

/Objective

This editorial print design project transformed a design history research paper into a professionally designed magazine inspired by Roy Lichtenstein's iconic comic book aesthetic. Through iterative prototyping, print production, and refinement, the final booklet demonstrates how thoughtful print design can enhance both historical content and the reader's experience.

/Design Statement

I’ve always been inspired by comic book artstyle so naturally I was fascinated by Roy Lichinstein’s artwork. My goal for this project was to create a magazine that resembles a comic book, reflecting Roy Lichtenstein’s style. I  focused on a red, blue, and yellow color scheme, which aligns with the three primary colors that Lichtenstein uses in his artwork. I incorporated numerous halftone patterns to reflect the Benday dots he employs, along with bold black outlines around boxes to mimic the comic book style.

Process

The design process included writing a research paper, creating a structured grid system, sketching layout thumbnails, producing multiple black-and-white print prototypes, and designing a cohesive publication using the principles of typography, hierarchy, pacing, and visual storytelling.
